There are many common birds in West Chester and here are the top 10:
Dark-eyed junco: Slate colored is the one that lives here, dark black back and head, off-white underbelly, likes to stay at the top of trees. Abundant in winter.
Northern Cardinal: Easy to recognize and shy, bright strawberry red on male with black face, female is light brown with red under wings and on tip of crest. Year-rounder
Eastern Bluebird: Bright blue on back and rusty underbelly, female the same, only blue-gray on back. Once endangered because not enough nesting places, making a huge comeback because people are putting out special birdhouses. Now very common here and very beautiful.

Golden Eagle: Uncommon eagle around the area. Adult is dark brown everywhere except neck which is light tawny brown. Juvenile is the same except for white patches under wings.
