This page is all about hawks and how we can protect them.
I know I'm biased, but hawks are the best birds. They are all really cool in the way they fly, what they eat, and how they survive. This page is all about them.
Flight
Hawks usually soar around, looking for prey, but all hawks soar different. Some dive and do spectacular stunts. Others just drift lazily on wind currents. Hawks have particular differences in the way they fly.
Food and what they eat
All hawks and falcons eat small mammals and songbirds. But what is really amazing is that Golden Eagles (see Most common birds of West Chester PA) can take out fully grown deer, or antelopes. Bald Eagles and Crested Caracaras eat fish as well as normal prey. Some also eat lizards and... snakes!?!?!? Though snakes are dangerous, these birds know just what to do.
Protection laws and how to save these animals.
Whatever you do, do not bring a wild injured hawk into your house. You might as well put a nuke under your home. If you see an injured hawk, call the ASPCA or other animal shelter.
Back to the subject. Why do people shoot hawks for sport?(Or any bird for that matter.) Probably because those BOZOS don't have anything to do better then break out a gun and shoot a rare hawk. He'll say "What bird was that? I don't care! I shot it!" Well he should. If you shot a rare hawk, you'll find yourself heading for jail or to court. People are starting to stand for the hawks, and are setting laws for protection of the hawks. Way to go people! I am starting to set up a protection law for golden eagles, even though they are already protected. (Golden Eagles are my favorite bird!)
